"Wild West"
Three Mexican brothers have been peacefully working their silver mine operation till three Mexican brothers showed up and took it from them including one brother who has deserted with his troops from the Mexicxan Army. Fortunately the miners escaped capture and have hired gunfighters from across the boarder to seek revenge.
Bandit Forces:
Two groups of bandits plus 2 Leaders.
One Republican Army force with a Leader.
Gunmen Forces:
3 groups of Gunmen plus 3 Leaders.
The Deserters blocked the center forcing the Gunmen units to approach skirting the flanks. Volley fire was used with limited effect. Continuing shots were exchanged as the gunmen approached within range of the Hacienda on both flanks.
Casualties began to mount with the Mexicans taking the brunt of it. They were handicapped by the "Poor Shot" ability but continued to hold off the threat. The pair of bandits in the gate lookout attracted fire immedately and were forced to duck back and go prone. Eventually they were shot down as the exchange of fire became more intense.
With the Gunmen left flank suffering morale problems they began to pressed on with the right. The Bandits on the left flank went to shaken and could not recover before they went to rout. With that the Gunmen had successfully taken the hacienda and recovered the mining operation.
As might be expected with a shooter the exchange of gunfire continued and as the wounds mounted the gunmen found they had to go on the attack or they would run out of time. Needless to say the game simulated the exhange of gunfire and movement well with pistols certainly less effective at range than the rifles.
Other game mechanisms worked well as a couple times individual figures were forced to spend an action reloading. Likewise the duckback rule was employed and close shots forced duckback actions. Volley fire was less effective than one might expect but poor/good die rolling might have been the issue. The doctor made low rolls and managed to remove 2 wounds before he couldn't keep up with the casualties.
The game ran smoothly at a quick pace and didn't get bogged down anywhere during the action. The shooter version is much quicker paced than a variant that had more hand to hand action involved. There was no hand to hand in this game but there was a point where the Deserters might have charged a group of Gunmen who chose to fall back to regroup.
